Max & Erma’s Restaurant Announcing Grand Opening
LAKE SAINT LOUIS, MO.—Max & Erma’s Restaurant, a Midwest casual dining tradition for more than 35 years, is expanding in the St. Charles area. Developed by current franchisees Steve Welkener and Ed Goergen, the newest Max & Erma’s location will be opening on May 11 at The Meadows shopping center at I-64/US 40 and Lake Saint Louis Boulevard. The new restaurant is creating approximately 100 new jobs for the area. Max & Erma’s is the second anchor restaurant to open at The Meadows, joining locally owned BC’s Kitchen.
“St. Louis has been a favorable market for our restaurant, and we are excited to join the line up of great retailers at The Meadows,” said Welkener. “We are confident that this growth will solidify the quality brand for which we have come to be known.”
Max & Erma’s is a family-style restaurant that serves lunch and dinner daily. Carryout orders are also available. The menu features appetizers, soups, salads, sandwiches, gourmet burgers, pasta, steaks and seafood, complemented by a full bar. Kids of all ages love their signature Build-Your-Own Sundae Bar. Appetizers and soups start at $4.99, gourmet burgers start at $7.99 and lunch entrees start at $6.99.
The original Max & Erma’s began as a railroader bar in the German Village of Columbus, Ohio. Todd Barnum and Barry Zacks sketched out an agreement on a cocktail napkin in 1972 to purchase the bar from Max and Erma Visocnik, on the condition that Max would be allowed to drink free draft beer for the rest of his life. Barnum and Zacks had a goal of creating the first gourmet hamburger restaurant in the Midwest. They liked the name of the original establishment and adopted it for their new company, giving birth to the family style restaurant that Max & Erma’s is today.
